Nebraska suspends forward for significant portion of 2020-21 basketball season

Nebraska forward Derrick Walker has been suspended for 16 games this season, according to a press release by the university, via Omaha.com.
Walker is being suspended for violations he committed while as a member of the Tennessee basketball team.
Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg is aware of what occurred at Tennessee but is supportive of Walker.
“Since arriving at Nebraska, Derrick Walker has been phenomenal at owning up to a mistake he made prior to coming here,” Hoiberg said to Omaha.com. “He was transparent throughout the recruiting process and acknowledged his mistake. In turn, we told him confidently we would support and fight for him.”
Hoiberg is proud of the transformation Walker has made since transferring to Nebraska.
“Regardless of the outcome of any further appeals, we will continue to support Derrick and get him as ready as possible for when he is eligible to compete,” Hoiberg said to Omaha.com. “I know Derrick is in a much better place today than when he arrived at Nebraska, and he is a valuable member of our team on and off the court.”
Walker averaged 1.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in two seasons at Tennessee.
Nebraska will look to turn things around this season. The Cornhuskers are coming off a season in which they finished last in the B1G.
Nebraska begins the season today against visiting McNeese (11 a.m. CST/BTN).
