Report: shooting claims life of college football player

An active Texas State Bobcats football player was shot dead in an alleged drug-related act of violence, according to a report from KVUE, the local ABC affiliate in the San Marcos, Texas area.
Khambrail Winters, a 20-year-old sophomore defensive back, was reportedly shot inside the Lodge Apartment Complex, located about two miles east of the university’s main campus.
Officers went to the apartments the night of Nov. 24 after receiving a report of multiple shots fired in the area, scattering a group of people who were seen running in various directions from the complex, according to the call. Officers arrived shortly after 9 p.m. and found Winters bleeding from a gunshot wound to his chest. He later died of his injuries.
The Texas State football program released a statement through their official Twitter account.

Our Texas State University football team is deeply saddened by the death of our team member and friend, Khambrail Winters. I met with players this morning to share this news about Khambrail. We will stand together as a team and support one another during this very difficult time. Our thoughts and condolences are with Khambrail’s family and loved ones.
According to a report released by police to local media, officers learned Winters, along with two others, were set to buy several ounces of marijuana and had been led to the apartment to complete the transaction.
“During the interviews, it was discovered that Winters and two other individuals, Enalisa Blackman and Michael Ifeanacho, planned to buy drugs,” according to the city of San Marcos. “The drug deal was set up at the apartment complex where Blackman met two individuals to purchase a couple ounces of marijuana.”
Blackman and Ifeanacho, who are both 20-years-old, were arrested and charged with capital murder. They are being held at Hays County Jail, according to the report.
Winters was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt player last season but was rehabbing a torn ACL and had not played in 2020.
