Michigan State leads the all-time series 38-20 and won last season’s meeting against Northwestern.
Northwestern is off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 1996. Northwestern defeated No. 10 Wisconsin 17-7 in a defensive battle last week. Northwestern forced five turnovers and shutout Wisconsin in the final three quarters of the game.
Michigan State’s game last week was canceled because of COVID-19 concerns at Maryland. Michigan State’s lone victory was at Michigan in Week 2. In its last two games, Michigan State has scored just 7 points combined. The Spartans lost 49-7 at Iowa in Week 3 and were shut out 24-0 against then-No. 10 Indiana in Week 4.
