After a short gain the red zone, McNamara took a hard hit to his right shoulder and was eventually forced to go to the locker room.
Penn State punted its next possession, and backup quarterback Joe Milton came into the game.
McNamara emerged as Michigan’s best quarterback last week against Rutgers. He threw four touchdown passes in a triple overtime win against the Scarlett Knights.
Milton began the season as the starter, but has struggled since a season-opening win against Minnesota. So far this season, he’s completing just 57 percent of his passes and has the same number of touchdowns as interceptions (4).
Michigan is 2-3 this season, but could force Penn State into its first 0-6 start in program history.
McNamara completed 4-of-5 passes for 25 yards before leaving the game.
The game is currently tied 7-7 midway through the second quarter.
