Tom Allen updates injury status of QB Michael Penix Jr.

Saturday was not a kind one for Michael Penix Jr.
After his dynamic and impressive performance against Ohio State last weekend, Penix struggled heavily throughout the first half against Maryland. He completed just two passes as Indiana carried a slim 7-3 lead into halftime.
Unfortunately, all that Tom Allen and the Hoosiers care about is the health of Penix and his status for next Saturday’s game against Wisconsin. He left the second half of Saturday’s game due to what appeared to be a leg injury and needed help reaching the locker room.
Penix never returned to action with backup Jack Tuttle finishing off the win. After the game, head coach Tom Allen updated the status of Penix:
Tom Allen on Michael Penix: "Don’t really know right now. We’ll do some more tests, figure it out. It’s a lower-leg injury." #iufb

Tom Allen on Michael Penix Jr., says it's a lower-leg injury. Will have to do more tests.
On Jack Tuttle: "Whatever position it is, guys have to step up when called upon." #iufb

Hopefully the tests come back okay and Penix is able to rest and heal up for next Saturday. It is encouraging that backup Jack Tuttle went 5-for-5 for 31 yards in reserve of Penix, but there’s no denying Penix is a big heart and soul of the offense.
