This is a frightening situation unfolding in East Lansing.

Northwestern WR Berkeley Holman had to be carted off the field after a violent collision with a Michigan State defensive back.

Holman was attempting to catch a pass from quarterback Peyton Ramsey, but it was intercepted.

Here’s the play:

According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, doctors had to cut Holman’s helmet off at the scene.

Per Adam Hoge of NBCS Chicago, Holman is awake and alert and being taken to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.

Holman is a junior receiver from Irvine, Calif. He had two catches for 27 yards before leaving the game.

If Northwestern wins this game, it will clinch a spot in the Big Ten Championship game. The Wildcats are 5-0 and coming off a win over Wisconsin.
