Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm hasn’t had a lot of postgame comments yet after his team lost to Rutgers, but he did talk about the ejection of linebacker Derrick Barnes.

He was ejected for targeting during the game and Brohm didn’t seem too big of a fan of it:

With the ejection, Barnes will be unavailable for the first half of next week’s game against Nebraska as per the targeting rules.

That will be a big loss for the Boilermakers defense as Barnes has been one of their better players for that unit. Coming into today’s game, he had 36 total tackles for the season (23 solo) with one interception. During the game against Rutgers before his ejection, he had nine tackles (all solo).

His best season as a Boilermaker came when he was a sophomore in 2018. That season, he had 92 total tackles (61 solo) with three sacks.

Kickoff for Purdue’s game against Nebraska next Saturday is still yet to be determined.
