Purdue coach Jeff Brohm met with the media on Monday morning, just a couple days after the Boilermakers’ upset loss against Rutgers on Saturday.
Weekly press conferences are typically more focused on the week ahead rather than the game that already happened. But for Brohm this week, he spent a lot of time discussing what went wrong against the Scarlett Knights.
Brohm acknowledged Purdue’s difficulty in stopping the running game in the second half against Rutgers and said they have to be more aggressive.
Running backs Johnny Langan and Isaih Pacheco both ran for more than 60 yards and more than four yards per carry.
Brohm on defense in 2nd half: Hard time stopping run; should we be more aggressive? Yes.

Brohm also harped on the importance of staying aggressive on defense.
Brohm on defense: Need to be involved in all phases of game. We want to be aggressive.

Brohm said all three phases have to be better moving forward.

The turning point in the game was a kick return touchdown by Rutgers. Brohm says Purdue had a couple backups in on that play, and stressed the importance of everyone knowing their role.
Brohm: two backups in on kickoff return for a TD. Need to make sure everyone knows their role.

Brohm discussed the emerging running back tandem of Alexander Horvath and King Doerue. Horvath rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on Saturday. Doerue added 47 yards at a clip of 7.8 yards per attempt.
Brohm on Doerue: Will build on tandem with Horvath.

Looking ahead to Nebraska, Brohm did say the Huskers’ QB running game will be a concern throughout the week. Both Luke McCaffrey and Adrian Martinez are better on the ground than they are through the air.
Brohm on Nebraska: QB run makes it dangerous. Need to create stops.

Purdue and Nebraska kick off at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.
