Buckeyes are back! Ohio State announces return to organized team activities

Ohio State may not have to cancel Saturday’s game against Michigan State after all. On Tuesday, the athletic department announced that the Buckeyes are returning to team activities in the afternoon.

The news comes after Ohio State was forced to cancel last weekend’s game against Illinois at the last second. Many believed the Buckeyes would be forced to scratch the Week 7 matchup against Michigan State, as well, however there’s renewed optimism that the contest can be played.

“The Ohio State University football team will resume organized team activities this afternoon in preparation for its game Saturday against Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.,” the statement from Ohio State said.

Head coach Ryan Day, who tested positive for COVID-19, will not be permitted to coach in Saturday’s game against the Spartans.

Ohio State will enter the game with a 4-0 record, needing to play both Michigan State and Michigan to qualify for the B1G Championship Game. The Buckeyes currently rank 4th in the College Football Playoff rankings, with the new rankings being released Tuesday night.

Kickoff between Ohio State and Michigan State is set for 12 p.m. ET.
