Report: Ohio State continuing to move forward with MSU preparations

According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, the Ohio State Buckeyes are going to go all in trying to get their final two regular season games played in order to qualify for the Dec. 12 Big Ten conference championship game.

The Buckeyes reportedly are practicing today in preparation for Saturday’s scheduled game in East Lansing against Michigan State, which would bring Ohio State to five games on the season, one short of the number needed to qualify as division champions for the title game. 

This in spite of the fact their head coach, Ryan Day, is in quarantine after a positive Covid-19 test and will not be eligible to coach or communicate with the team on game day. 

If Ohio State can get its game this weekend, all that’s left is the rivalry showdown with the University of Michigan Dec. 12. The Buckeyes will be massive favorites in that game, which is being played this year in Columbus, and expected to romp before heading to Indianapolis to play the Northwestern Wildcats, the West division champion both by win and forfeit. 

The 4-0 Buckeyes are walking the proverbial razors edge on their path to a potential conference title. Of course, the College Football Playoff could decide to select Ohio State even if they didn’t officially win the Big Ten championship game, but it would be an ugly blemish on the Buckeyes resume. No one told Covid-19 what was on the line, apparently, and we’ll know if the virus is a fan of Ohio State or not in about two weeks.
