The Big Ten Network’s Joshua Perry took some time this week to rank the top five “ball hawks” in the conference.
Here’s his list:
- Shakur Brown, Michigan State
- Brandon Joseph, Northwestern
- Jaylin Williams, Indiana
- Tiawan Mullen, Indiana
- Jack Koerner, Iowa
There shouldn’t be any surprise to Brown and Joseph being at the top. Those two are co-leaders in interceptions in the Big Ten with five each. Joseph producing at this level as a redshirt freshman is incredibly impressive.
Seeing two Hoosiers make the cut is sensible, too. Both Jaylin Williams and Tiawan Mullen are in the top five in the Big Ten in interceptions and Indiana’s 16 interceptions lead the Big Ten by a wide margin.
Last to make the cut is Jack Koerner. He is tied with Williams and Mullen with three interceptions and has emerged as one of the best players on Iowa’s vaunted defense.
If there are any snubs here, it’s likely Indiana’s Jamar Johnson has the best case. He has three interceptions plus five pass deflections on the season.
Here’s Perry’s full analysis on his top 5 ball hawks in the Big Ten:
