Here’s how James Franklin reacted to Trace McSorely’s first NFL touchdown pass

James Franklin was proud of Trace McSorley, the Penn State head coach not at all surprised to learn that his former starting quarterback threw his first NFL touchdown pass on Wednesday afternoon.

McSorley came on for Robert Griffin III in the second half, completing 2-of-6 passes for 77 yards with a touchdown in what was his longest run of snaps in a regular season game. The Ravens lost 19-14 to the still undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I’m a big Trace McSorely fan,” Franklin said. “I’ve got a very close relationship with his mom and dad, and his sister as well, who used to babysit for us. So nothing with that guy surprises me one bit.”

McSorley was a three-year starter at Penn State, being named to the All-Big Ten Second Team three times in his career. The Ravens drafted him in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

The game was made closer when, late in the fourth quarter, McSorley threw a 70-yard touchdown pass towide receiver Marquise Brown.  He was told following Penn State’s practice on Wednesday about McSorley’s touchdown pass.

Franklin, 1-5 this year at Penn State, said that his former quarterback is someone who gets the job done.

“It’s just like I told the Ravens, it’s just like I told everybody else — he’s one of those guys that’s going to find a way,” Franklin said.
