Benches clear in BYU, Coastal Carolina game after cheap shot to QB Zach Wilson

The end of the first half in the BYU-Coastal Carolina game was certainly eventful.

The half ended with Cougars QB Zach Wilson tossing up a Hail Mary to the end zone, which was then intercepted.

During the return, a couple Coastal Carolina defenders turned to Wilson to block him. No harm, no foul, until they drove him into the turf. And then did it again. And then again.

Thus, the benches clearing for a halftime meeting of sorts. Here’s the play with Wilson:

Referees and coaches were able to separate the sides without much more of a further incident. The play will likely be reviewed at halftime and penalties could still be handed out.

As for the game itself, BYU is taking a 14-13 lead to the break. Both teams are running the ball exceptionally well.
