Kirk Ferentz weighs in on B1G’s decision to allow Ohio State to play for conference title

Do not expect Kirk Ferentz to lose any sleep over the B1G’s recent decision regarding the conference championship game.

The big news Wednesday came when the conference announced it was waiving the previous six-game threshold. That move allows Ohio State, at 5-0, to represent the East division in the B1G Championship Game now that the game against Michigan is canceled.

Iowa was already somewhat a part of the story with AD Gary Barta the current Chair of the CFP Committee. ESPN’s Heather Dinich reported that Barta had recused himself from the vote on Ohio State due to his conflicting roles this season.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz also has an outside perspective on the conference title this season. At 5-2, the Hawkeyes are already eliminated from winning the West and have not played either Ohio State or Indiana, the other potential East representative before Wednesday’s decision.

During his radio show appearance, Ferentz said he has no complaints about Ohio State getting the nod to go play for a conference title. He believes the Buckeyes are the top team in the league:

Iowa will play Wisconsin in Week 8 while waiting to find out the opponent for Champions Week.
