Tom Izzo disagrees with Mike Krzyzewski’s take on college basketball, COVID-19

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski has created a bit of a firestorm with his recent comments.

When asked about college basketball playing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Coach K recently questioned if continuing to play is the right thing to do.

“People are saying the next six weeks are going to be the worst,” Krzyzewski was quoted as saying by ESPN. “To me, it’s already pretty bad. On the other side of it, there are these vaccines that are coming out. By the end of the month, 20 million vaccine shots will be given. By the end of January or in February, another 100 million. Should we not reassess that? See just what would be best?”

What has added to the fury is the timing of Coach K’s comments, as they came after the Blue Devils suffered their second non-conference loss.

BUt Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo had an interesting response to Coach K’s remarks during an appearance on “Tiki & Tierney.”

“I have great respect for Mike, but like, I didn’t let my kids go home for Thanksgiving (or Xmas).” said Izzo.

“Sure that was Hard. But LeBron stayed for 3 months (in the bubble). Sometimes there’s sacrifices you have to make…”

While Izzo’s comments weren’t too harsh, the same cannot be said about Alabama head coach Nate Oats and his comments.

On Thursday, the Crimson Tide coach asked reporters, “Do you think Coach K would be saying that if he hadn’t lost those two non-conference games at home?”

What response Coach K has to the matter, we’ll have to wait and see.
