Nebraska DB Cam Taylor-Britt called for targeting, ejected for hit on Minnesota QB Tanner Morgan

Nebraska’s Cam Taylor-Britt has seen his day against Minnesota come to a premature end.

Taylor-Britt was called for targeting after a hit on Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan in the second quarter. The hit was not initially flagged on the field, but a replay review was initiated to check the hit.

In the end, replay determined that Taylor-Britt made helmet-to-helmet contact with Morgan on the play. Though replay did clearly show the contact, it is also true that Morgan was in the process of sliding to the ground which drastically changed the target of Taylor-Britt’s hit.

Beyond the ejection, the foul came on a third-down stop for the Huskers. The penalty kept Minnesota’s drive alive with the Gophers cashing in soon after with a go-ahead touchdown.

Taylor-Britt will at least avoid a first-half absence for Nebraska’s Champions Week game since he will be sitting out the second half against Minnesota.

The call was Taylor-Britt’s second targeting penalty of the season after he was flagged in the season opener against Ohio State. That penalty was actually the first targeting call in the conference this season.
