The yearly metamorphosis from football to basketball season is well underway.

The gridiron makes another shift today toward the hardwood when Penn State travels to Ann Arbor to play the Michigan Wolverines. The last time they were in town the Nittany Lions beat Michigan, 72-63, for only their third ever win inside the Crisler Center.

Penn State enters the game at 3-1, with a lone loss at home to Seton Hall, and fresh off a victory over 15th ranked Virginia Tech in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.

The Wolverines are 5-0 and have received enough votes to land them just outside the AP Top 25 poll. A win today for Michigan could get them ranked in the next round of voting.

After historically bad and disappointing football seasons for both programs, there’s never been a better time to become basketball schools.

Last year the Nittany Lions finished  21-10, (11-9 B1G), good for seventh in the league. The Wolverines were 19-12 (10-10) and finished ninth.

The game today tips at 1 pm ET and airs on the Big Ten Network.
