Northwestern basketball game canceled hours before tip-off due to COVID-19

Northwestern’s nonconference showdown with SIU-Edwardsville has been canceled due to COVID-19, the Wildcats announced on Sunday morning.

Tip off was scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.

According to the release, the game was canceled due to a positive test at SIU-Edwardsville. Here’s the full release:

Northwestern’s men’s basketball game against SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday, December 13, has been canceled, per Big Ten protocols, due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Cougars program. The Wildcats are scheduled to wrap up the non-conference schedule on Tuesday, December 15, when they host Quincy at 3 p.m. CT at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Northwestern is 2-1 this season with a 71-70 loss to Pittsburgh being the only blemish. Chase Audige has been the Wildcats’ leading scorer so far this season at 16 points per game.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, conference play starts today with a meeting between Michigan and Penn State.

Northwestern is expected to open conference play at home vs. Michigan State on Dec. 20.
