Justin Fields in Northwestern’s white and purple is certainly an interesting thought.

The Ohio State quarterback, among the favorites for the Heisman, said that he very nearly committed to Northwestern when in high school. On Saturday, Fields and his Buckeyes teammates will face Northwestern for the Big Ten Championship Game.

Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald admitted a year ago that he was recruiting Fields, who committed to Georgia before eventually transferring to Ohio State. He jokingly said that Fields could have ended up at Northwestern but then saw a bump in his recruiting ranking and the bigger programs hopped on board.

“And then all of the sudden, you guys gave him too many stars. It would have been great if you kept him where he was when we recruited him,” Fitzgerald said last October.

Fields ended up as the second-best player in the nation according to 247Sports and a five-star recruit in the class of 2018.

On Saturday in Indianapolis, Northwestern will start Indiana transfer Peyton Ramsey, who has been solid this season with 1,218 passing yards to go alongside nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
