Desmond Howard blasts College Football Playoff committee for SEC bias

Desmond Howard sees a good amount of SEC bias from the College Football Playoff selection committee this year. And he had no trouble calling it out during ESPN’s Get Up on Wednesday morning.
The fourth edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night, with Alabama sitting at No. 1, Texas A&M at No. 5, Florida dropping to No. 7 after a horrible loss to LSU and Georgia in the No. 9 slot despite having two losses.
Howard doesn’t think it makes sense.
“It seems as though the CFP loves the SEC. That was just mind-blowing that Florida could lose to one of the worst teams in the conference who’s having an awful year at home and only drop one slot down,” Howard said. “We’re talking about four teams from the SEC in the top 10, two in the top five.
“Florida is sitting there with the ugliest loss of them all and Florida only dropped one slot down. And then you sit there and listen to Gary Barta and poor Rece Davis … he’s asking this gentleman questions, and he’s not giving any straight answers. I want to text Rece ‘ask him where were you born? I bet he’d give you the runaround.’”
Tuesday’s ranking didn’t make much sense considering Cincinnati dropped in the poll, despite owning an 8-0 record. The committee knocked the Bearcats for not having played in several weeks, though Ohio State sits in the No. 4 spot with only having played five games.
Certainly there’s some inconsistency with the rankings this year, that was to be expected. But there appears to be an incredible amount of love for the SEC, even with some ugly losses on those resumes.
We’ll see how things shake out over the weekend, when the final rankings come out on Sunday.
