Yanni Karlaftis is set to decide his college choice, with one recruiting insider believing that the four-star linebacker is set to stay close to home.
Rivals.com recruiting writer Josh Helmholdt believes that Karlaftis will end up signing with Purdue. The prospect’s final four include the Boilermakers, Wisconsin, Oregon and Cal. He will make his final decision and announcement at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Helmholdt notes that “this recruitment has gone on a long time.”
“He was going to decide in the summer, he told me earlier this fall that if he was going to decide this summer it was going to Purdue,” Helmholdt said.
“He wanted to go out and see some of these schools, particularly the West Coast schools, never got the chance with the dead period being extended. I do expect Purdue is going to end up with Yanni Karlaftis on signing day
“It underscores a class at Purdue in 2021 that has not met expectations.”
The addition of Karlaftis would be a big boost for a class that is ranked No. 83 in the nation according to 247Sports, behind the likes of Northern Illinois (No. 80) and East Carolina (No. 81) and just ahead of Temple (No. 84) and North Texas (No. 85).
His brother is George Karlaftis, a standout defensive end at Purdue.
