5-star J.J. McCarthy explains his role in keeping Michigan’s recruiting class together

5-star signee J.J. McCarthy has played a key position in ensuring Michigan’s recruiting class remained with the Wolverines during a difficult season.
McCarthy explained on Day 1 of the Early Signing period why it was so important to him to take on a leadership role with his peers.
“I’m committed to this university for a lot more reasons than just the game of football,” McCarthy said on the Big Ten Network on Wednesday afternoon.. “The role I was kind of stepping into was being a leader of this class and being able to keep our guys together, keep our guys committed. …We stay in touch all the time and it’s an awesome family feel that we’ve got going on so far. It’s like this team chemistry is already booming already.”
McCarthy recalls the game against Wisconsin as an excellent bonding time for the recruiting class. McCarthy is the No. 2 pro style quarterback in the nation, according to 247Sports.
Michigan also landed six 4-star prospects, to end up with the nation’s No. 10 class and the No. 2 class in the B1G.
One thing is clear: Michigan’s woes this season won’t sting so badly anymore if McCarthy and the Class of 2021 can revitalize the program.
