Report: Purdue will move quickly to replace fired defensive coordinator Bob Diaco

Purdue appears to be closing in on a new defensive coordinator, a surprisingly-swift search after Bob Diaco was let go on Thursday.
Diaco spent just a single season at Purdue as their defensive coordinator, his firing a surprise even as the Boilermakers had some struggles on defense. They were seventh in the Big Ten in points allowed and eighth in total defense.
The nugget here is that Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm has been sniffing around and seems ready to make a hire to replace Diaco sooner rather than later according to FootballScoop.com.
Brohm quietly shopped the position over the past few days, sources told FootballScoop. He will be prepared to bring in a new defensive leader quickly.
Diaco has strong ties in the Big Ten as well as with important recruiting regions for the conference. He’s a former Iowa linebacker who played his high school football in northern New Jersey, a hot bed for Big Ten recruiting.
In addition, he’s spent time on other Big Ten staffs including Nebraska and Iowa as well as national programs such as Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
He spent three years as head coach of UConn beginning in 2014.
