Even with a solid first half from Luka Garza, Iowa is struggling to hang with No. 1 Gonzaga.

The No. 3 Hawkeyes trail 51-37 at the break, with 14 points from the National Player of the Year contender. Garza made 6-of-8 shots in the first half and added a team-high three rebounds, but the Bulldogs still found ways to build a lead.

Jalen Suggs, who is also a National Player of the Year candidate, poured in 18 points on seven shots, making 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Corey Kispert has also been good, scoring 11 on 4-of-8 shooting.

Jack Nunge is Iowa’s second-leading scorer at the break with seven points. Joe Wieskamp is struggling a bit, only scoring five points on six shots before the break.

Overall, Gonzaga is shooting a staggering 58 percent from the field to Iowa’s 46 percent. Hawkeye fans will have to hope they can keep up that scoring pace while slowing down the Bulldogs considerably in the second half.

Gonzaga is also out-rebounding Iowa 22-13.

Both teams are undefeated so far this season.
