Northwestern defensive back Greg Newsome II is doubtful to return to the Big Ten Championship Game
Newsome went off the field midway through the second quarter with what the FOX broadcast said was a groin injury. He was a consensus All-Big Ten first team selection during the honors handed out by the conference this past week.
In five games, Newsome had 12 tackles and 10 passes defended as well as his first career interception.
The likely loss of Newsome is a tough blow for the Wildcats, who went into halftime up 10-6 on the fourth-ranked team in the nation. Credit has to be given to Northwestern, who limited Ohio State to just 101 passing yards in the first half.
Fellow defensive back Brandon Joseph has had a big day for Northwestern with a second quarter interception of Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Joseph was named the conference’s freshmen of the year and, like Newsome, was an All-Big Ten first team selection as well.
