Ohio State ties impressive program record with B1G title game performance

It wasn’t always pretty, but Ohio State tied a program and Big Ten record in its 22-10 win over Northwestern.
The Buckeyes cleared at least 20 points for the 46th consecutive game, tying a record they set from 2012-15.

The last time Ohio State failed to score 30 points in a game was against Oklahoma in a 31-16 loss at home — the infamous Baker Mayfield flag plant game.
In this case, the the 22 points Ohio State scored against the Wildcats were enough to get by. The Buckeyes struggled in the first half, but running back Trey Sermon carried them after halftime.
Sermon broke both the Big Ten Championship Game and Ohio State single-game record for rushing with 331 yards. He also scored two touchdowns, doing all that damage on 29 carries.
Oddly enough, Sermon also scored a touchdown in the game — for the Sooners — the last time the Buckeyes failed to get to 20 points.
Ohio State will now await its fate in the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 4 by the selection committee coming into today, and figure to have a good shot at earning a semifinal berth.
