Fans, media react to news of CFB Playoff moving on from Rose Bowl as host site

Unable to host any spectators because of California’s strict coronavirus (COVID-19) policies, the Rose Bowl serving as a host site for one of the College Football Playoff semifinal games was a fluid situation.

The issue of parents and spouses not being able to attend was thrust further into the spotlight on Friday when Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney spoke out against potentially having to make the trip.

Hearing the criticism from multiple angles, the Tournament of Roses announced Saturday the game will be moved to Arlington, Texas’ AT&T Stadium, home of the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys.

Once this news became official, fans and media members alike weighed in with their opinions on Twitter.

I cannot stress this enough about the Rose Bowl situation: As soon as it became apparent no West Coast team was going to be involved it made no sense to have the game there.
The Rose Bowl has no power. It was not standing in the way. It was simply waiting to host its game.

I love the #RoseBowl and all of the traditions that come with it. But if California is refusing to have any fans at the semifinal game, then the game had to be moved. Simple as that.

The CFP announcing that it is moving out of the Rose Bowl due to "the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Southern California" is an outright fabrication. Positivity rate in L.A. County: 14.7 percent. Positivity rate in Tarrant County, where the game is moving: 17 percent.
