National championship odds, College Football Playoff semifinal spreads released
What a difference a week makes for Ohio State, who didn’t necessarily impress on Saturday in beating Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game.
No. 3 Ohio State isn’t favored in their upcoming Sugar Bowl match-up with No. 2 Clemson, this after a sluggish first half against Northwestern. Ohio State was down 10-6 at halftime to Northwestern, rebounding to piece together a borderline dominant second half for a 22-10 win.
And while the win was enough to get the Buckeyes into the Big Ten Championship Game, it wasn’t impressive or necessarily confidence instilling, something represented in the odds for their New Year’s Day meeting with No.2 Clemson.
The Buckeyes, so sluggish on Saturday, aren’t the favorite.
The line for Ohio State, according to BetOnline:
Clemson vs Ohio State
Clemson -6.5
Ohio State +6.5
Over/Under 65.5
The overall odds for the College Football Playoff according to BetOnline show Ohio State as third among the four teams in terms of odds to win the playoff:
College Football Playoff Championship
Alabama 4/7
Clemson 12/5
Ohio State 5/1
Notre Dame 14/1
And it was not a good showcase for quarterback Justin Fields, who battled through a thumb injury that clearly affected him against Northwestern. Fields threw for a season-low 114 yards and had two interceptions as Ohio State turned away from their star quarterback and to the ground game in the second half to churn out the win.
Fields, a week ago, was among the Heisman favorites at 25:1, sixth best odds in the nation. Now after Saturday’s game, he’s out of the running entirely with just five names currently according to BetOnline:
Heisman Odds
Devonta Smith 4/7
Mac Jones 7/5
Trevor Lawrence 12/1
Kyle Trask 20/1
Najee Harris 20/1
And here are the odds for CFP game between Alabama and Notre Dame:
Alabama vs Notre Dame
Alabama -19
Notre Dame +19
Over/Under 64.5
