Down go the Spartans!
In what was a remarkable performance by Northwestern, the Wildcats downed No. 4 Michigan State in Evanston Sunday night. It wound up being a 14-point defeat with Northwestern finishing off the game with a final score of 79-65.
The win was an incredible one but make no mistake about it. Northwestern looked hungrier, sharper, and more efficient than the Spartans. The Wildcats took control with an early run and led big at halftime.
Sunday’s upset also goes down as the first upset of a top-five team by Northwestern since 1979. That win was also over Michigan State, and it was the first win over MSU by the Wildcats since 2012.

The big star of the performance was sophomore guard Boo Buie. He poured in a career-high 30 points on a remarkable 5-for-6 shooting from three-point range. Buie also had three rebounds and four assists in the game.
Forward Pete Nance was also a big star for the Wildcats, posting a double-double against a tough Spartans frontcourt. Nance finished with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor with 12 rebounds and four assists.
Not to be overshadowed, Northwestern’s defense limited Michigan State to 38.8% shooting from the floor and 8-for-31 shooting from three-point range. All-in-all, a truly dominant performance in a massive upset for the Wildcats.
