Former Michigan State OL, high 4-star recruit transferring to Group of 5 program
Just a few days after making his announcement that he was entering his name in the NCAA transfer portal, former Michigan State offensive lineman and highly-ranked 4-star prospect Devontae Dobbs has committed to another program.
Dobbs announced on Twitter on Monday morning that he has committed to continuing his career at Memphis. It’s a huge addition for the Tigers, as Dobbs was a 4-star member of Michigan State’s 2019 recruiting class and was ranked as the No. 51 overall prospect in the cycle.
The Belleville, Mich., native was also listed as the No. 1 offensive guard in the 2019 class, per 247Sports.
“Thank you to all the coaches who have reached out for recruitment,” Dobbs wrote on Twitter. “At this time I would like to announce that I will be continuing my educational and athletic career at the University of Memphis.”

As a true freshman in 2019, Dobbs appeared in four games for the Spartans and made one start. He was able to retain his redshirt status that year, because of NCAA rules.
This year, Dobbs did not play in a game for Michigan State. The Spartans ended the year with a 2-5 record with victories over Michigan and Northwestern in Mel Tucker’s first season as the head coach in East Lansing.
Memphis finished the 2020 campaign with a 7-3 record.
