Army finalizes deal to play bowl game as a replacement for SEC team

It looks like Army will finally be playing a bowl game after all.
After Tennessee was forced to withdraw on Monday from the Liberty Bowl, reports surfaced that Army was investigating a potential game as a fill-in for the Volunteers. West Virginia, the other team originally slated for the Liberty Bowl, had to approve the replacement.
It looks like West Virginia is ready though as head coach Neal Brown just tweeted:

The Liberty Bowl’s official Twitter account was quick to confirm the revised matchup:

This is welcome news for Army as there’s been a lot of fuss about their bowl situation. They were supposed to play in the Independence Bowl but that bowl got canceled because they couldn’t find an opponent for them.
After that, teams such as Tennessee and South Carolina accepting bowl bids while Army was just being left in the dust. All of it got head coach Jeff Monken furious as he sounded off in an interview with ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
The Libert Bowl will be on Dec. 31 and kickoff will be at 3 p.m. ET.
