Michael Penix Jr. is making progress, the Indiana quarterback doing well following surgery for an ACL tear three weeks ago.
And while Penix obviously won’t play again this year, Indiana head coach Tom Allen is pleased with his recovery so far and the outlook for his rehab. The sophomore quarterback had 1,645 passing yards with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions in five games before the injury ended his season.
Penix suffered the injury in late November during a win against Maryland.
Indiana, ranked No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25, is 6-1 on the year and plays Ole Miss in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 2. Without Penix, Indiana beat Wisconsin on the road 14-6 with Jack Tuttle, in his first collegiate start, going 13-of-22 for 130 yards with two passing touchdowns.
Allen provided an update on Penix’s recovery on Wednesday during his weekly press availability:
Allen says Michael Penix's next step is "just pure rehab" after having surgery recently.
"He know he has to really attack these rehabs right now." #iufb

IU hopeful he can be much closer to 100 percent activity in the summer.
"Right now he's on schedule. I don't see him being involved much in spring, but definitely, we'll see him after that. He should be full bore for the start of the season." #iufb
