Jim Harbaugh clarifies why CB Jourdan Lewis did not play against Hawaii

In an off-season full of Jim Harbaugh drama, it seems to have carried over to the regular season – even after Michigan defeated Hawaii in its season-opener, 63-3.
ESPN’s Ed Cunningham speculated that Wolverines All-American cornerback Jourdan Lewis was not playing against Hawaii because of a suspension. This took place while the game went to a break, according to thespun.com.
Today, during Harbaugh’s press conference, the second-year head coach talked about exactly why Lewis wasn’t on the field against the Rainbow Warriors.
“He was getting close to being healthy enough to play in the game,” Harbaugh said. “He was working through something – had nothing to do with off-field suspension. I heard Ed Cunningham got way out over his skis, speculating that it was some kind of suspension. Jourdan Lewis is one of the finest guys we have on the team – football character and off-the-field character…just total character. There’s few, if any, better than Jourdan Lewis. I just wanted to clarify that.”
The drama may never end with Harbaugh, but 60-point victories make things a little easier. Michigan may have a shot at recording another blowout victory in Week 2.
The Wolverines’ next game is scheduled for a noon start on Saturday against UCF at home.
