Kentucky basketball head coach John Calipari isn’t too thrilled with himself after Kentucky endured an awful non-conference hoops schedule.
He actually wishes he could smack himself in the mouth for it, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN:
John Calipari: “This was the stupidest schedule I’ve ever put together. I’d like to smack myself in the mouth.”

The Wildcats dropped to 1-6 on the season earlier Saturday following their loss to Louisville. They’d have to make history if they want to still make it to the NCAA Tournament this season:
FINAL: Louisville 62, Kentucky 59
Kentucky drops to 1-6. No team has ever started 1-6 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

This is also Kentucky’s first 1-6 start to the season since 1911, according to Kyle Boone:

Despite this, Calipari doesn’t seem to be giving up on his team as they haven’t started SEC play yet:
John Calipari: “I don’t believe it’s over. We haven’t played a league game yet. Let’s go do what we do … I’m not budging, I’m not cracking.”

The Wildcats would likely have to almost win out to get into the tournament and that may not be feasible with how they’ve looked through seven games. Kentucky has also lost to North Carolina, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Kansas, and Richmond this season.
Their next game will be their SEC opener against Mississippi State next Saturday. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m. ET.
