One interesting statistic favors Ohio State over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl

It appears that many are favoring Clemson over Ohio State in the 2021 Sugar Bowl, which also is a College Football Playoff semifinal.
While there might be some sound logic to that decision, one stat does favor the Buckeyes. It has to do with how each team has fared in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in the College Football Playoff.
Since the Playoff began back in 2014, Ohio State is 1-0. Meanwhile, Clemson sits at 0-2 in the New Orleans-based palace.
Let’s start with the Buckeyes. They’ve placed in this stadium just once since the Playoff began. However, it was a memorable game. It was one of the inaugural CFP games back in 2014. Ohio State snuck in as the No. 4 seed playing against a heavily favored Alabama squad. The Buckeyes, led by then-coach Urban Meyer, pulled off a stunning upset with the signature moment being Ezekiel Elliot’s 85-yard run to clinch the victory.
As for the Tigers, it’s been heartbreak inside the Superdome. In 2018, Clemson came in as the No. 1 seed after defeating the Crimson Tide in 2017 to win the national championship. Alabama extracted some revenge, however, as the Tide rolled to a 24-6 victory with some staunch defensive play.
The Tigers would not play in the Big Easy until January 2020 when they were in the national championship against LSU. Joe Burrow’s squad rolled over Clemson to the national championship.
For the Tigers, this is not only a chance to put Ohio State in its place for the second consecutive season. It’s also a chance to have some positive memories inside the Superdome.
