Northwestern sends DC Mike Hankwitz out on top in Citrus Bowl with career win No. 400

Northwestern put up a huge performance in the Citrus Bowl, steamrolling Auburn to send defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz into retirement on a winning note.
In the game against an SEC opponent, the Wildcats never struggled and wound up winning 35-19 behind a huge performance from quarterback Peyton Ramsey. It gives Northwestern a 7-2 record to finish 2020 after going 3-9 in 2019.
The win gives Hankwitz an incredible 400 career wins as an assistant coach, capping a remarkable and tremendous 51-year coaching career. He joined Pat Fitzgerald’s staff in 2008 and previously spent time also at Wisconsin before joining the Wildcats.

After securing the win, Hankwitz was well-aware he was going to be the recipient of a Gatorade bath. He willingly embraced it:

400 appeared to be the theme of the day for Northwestern as linebacker Paddy Fisher also recorded the 400th career tackle of his illustrious career.
