Northwestern defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz coached his final game with the Wildcats today after 51 years as a coach at the collegiate level.

His defense put on a show today to send him out as the Wildcats only allowed 19 points in a 35-19 win. The win got Northwestern to a 7-2 finish for the season, but more importantly, it was Hankwitz’s 400th win as a coach.

After the game, Hankwitz talked with ESPN while standing with head coach Pat Fitzgerald and you can see the interview here:

Northwestern only allowed six points in the first half but what was more impressive was how dominant they were against the run. They allowed only 61 yards rushing, 32 of them coming from Tigers quarterback Bo Nix. Passing wise, they were also stout as they only allowed Nix to throw for one touchdown pass.

It’s unknown who’s going to replace Hankwitz next season but for now, Hankwitz can walk off into the sunset after his last win.
