Archie Miller discusses injury status of Indiana F Joey Brunk

On Dec. 30, Indiana basketball fans learned the tough news that senior Joey Brunk underwent back surgery and was going to be out indefinitely.
On Sunday, Hoosier head coach Archie Miller gave an update on Brunk and whether Indiana fans can expect to see Brunk again this season.

That’s encouraging news for Brunk and the Hoosiers. It’s not anything official, but it’s better than just flat out declaring Brunk’s season is over.
There were some significant expectations for Brunk heading into this season. He started 31 of 32 games for Indiana last season, averaging 6.8 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game.
The redshirt senior had experienced some back pain in fall practices, according to Miller. They held out Brunk during some of the early games in the non-conference season. After the injury failed to get better in December, the team and Brunk eventually decided on surgery.
The 2020-21 season has already had its ups and downs for Indiana. The Hoosiers currently sit at 6-4, having lost some close contests including a two-point road loss to Florida State in the B1G-ACC challenge.
After starting 0-2 in Big Ten play, Indiana escaped against Penn State with a two-point, overtime victory. The Hoosiers are back in action on Monday against Maryland in Bloomington.
