Former Minnesota athlete Chris Streveler records first NFL TD

After Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray limped from the field during the opening drive against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, backup quarterback Chris Streveler was called upon under center.

Rams quarterback John Wolford, playing for an injured Jared Goff, tossed an interception on his first NFL passing attempt, setting up the Cardinals for an early score in the first quarter.

Streveler, a former Minnesota Gopher, completed a pass to undrafted rookie running back Jonathan Ward for his first career touchdown – an 11-yard shuffle pass early in the first quarter.

With a playoff berth on the line, the score gave the Cardinals a 7-0 lead just five minutes into the final regular-season game of the 2020 season.

Streveler has had an interesting career path, to say the least. After his stint at Minnesota, he wound up at the Unversity of South Dakota where he threw for over 6,000 yards in two seasons.

After that, Streveler spent two seasons in the Canadian Football League from 2018-19, helping to capture a Grey Cup in 2019. He was then signed by Arizona for the 2020 NFL season.
