Marshall moving on from longtime head football coach

For the first time in over a decade, Marshall will have a head coach not named Doc Holliday on the sidelines.

Monday morning, Marshall announced that it would not be renewing Holliday’s contract moving forward. He has been the head coach of the Thundering Herd since the 2010 season. Holliday released a statement via his Twitter account on Monday:

In 11 seasons as the head coach at Marshall, Holliday compiled an 85-54 record and led the Thundering Herd to 8 bowl appearances. The program was 6-2 in those postseason games, but lost its last two bowl contests.

This season, Marshall was 7-3 and made an appearance in the Camellia Bowl. However, it ended on a bit of a sour note for the Thundering Herd. The team dropped its final three games after a 7-0 start to the year.

Holliday guided Marshall to 3 division titles and one C-USA crown during his 11 seasons with the program.
