One of the latest mock drafts for the 2021 NFL Draft has one team doing something absolutely nuts to trade up and take Justin Fields.
In Pro Football Focus’s latest mock, Michael Renner has the San Francisco 49ers trading with the Atlanta Falcons to move up to No. 4 in the first round. With that pick, he has the 49ers taking Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
This would be one heck of a shakeup in the draft if this trade were to happen since the 49ers are no doubt expecting Jimmy Garoppolo back healthy next season. With the Falcons trading back in that hypothetical trade, he has Atlanta taking tight end Kyle Pitts of Florida.
Even coming off the board at number four, Fields would be the third quarterback selected, according to this mock. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence is projected to go No. 1 overall and Renner is projecting the Jets to take BYU QB Zach Wilson at No. 2.
There are three other Big Ten players picked in the first round of that mock, with two more of them in the top 10. Here’s the complete list:
- 4. San Francisco 49ers – Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
- 7. Detroit Lions – Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan
- 8. Carolina Panthers – Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
- 13. Los Angeles Chargers – Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
