One of the bright spots from Rutgers offense is leaving the program, a surprising move as running back Kay’Ron Adams has entered the transfer portal.

This season as a sophomore, Adams had 159 rushing yards and a touchdown on 35 carries. The hard-running Adams also added four catches for 73 yards with a touchdown.

On the depth chart for Rutgers, who were a surprising 3-6 under returning head coach Greg Schiano, Adams was second among all running backs. This past season, Isaih Pacheco emerged as one of the Big Ten’s best running backs, leading Rutgers with 515 rushing yards. But Adams had the second-most rushing yards on the roster and would have presumably seen an expanded role in 2021 had he stuck with the program.

Adams committed to Rutgers under former head coach Chris Ash, who spent last season as defensive coordinator at Texas. At the time of his commitment, the three-star running back held offers from Iowa, Cincinnati and a number of MAC programs.
