Purdue senior safety will not return in 2021 despite extra year of eligbility

With the college football season over for all but two teams, we are starting to learn which players are returning to their respective schools and which are headed out via pursuit of a professional career or the transfer portal.
One player who won’t be returning and will be moving on from Purdue is fifth-year senior safety Brennan Thieneman. GoldandBlack.com reported Thursday that the Nashville native has elected not to use an extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA.

The Thieneman family has some history with Purdue. Older brother Jake was a free safety for the Boilermakers. Eventually, Brennan took over when his older brother graduated.
During the past two seasons, Brennan has been the starting free safety for Purdue. In 2020, he finished with 33 tackles, fourth most on the team. His career numbers include 42 games played, 17 starts and 116 tackles.
So far, Jeff Brohm’s squad has not seen many players take advantage of the extra eligibility. As of Thursday, just one senior—wide receiver Jackson Anthrop—is set to return to the squad.
