Bo Pelini will reportedly receive a nice, one-time payday after getting let go by LSU.

The former head coach at Nebraska, who also had a previous stint at LSU prior to leading the Huskers, returned to LSU as the defensive coordinator for 2020. After a run leading Youngstown State, there were hopes for Pelini to turnaround a defense that underperformed despite the Tigers capturing the national championship behind Joe Burrow in 2019.

Unfortunately, Pelini was unable to produce, getting let go after the season as the defense was one of the worst units in the SEC. It was Pelini’s first year as a DC since 2007, also at LSU.

According to Steve Berkowitz with USA TODAY, Pelini and the Tigers reached an agreement on one lump payout as the buyout instead of a buyout spread out over the next two years. As a part of that agreement, Pelini will be owed $4 million by the end of January:

That’s really not a bad payday after getting fired. It will also be interesting to see where Pelini winds up after his latest flop in Baton Rouge.
