Of all the guys to talk smack, the backup quarterback usually isn’t one of them.

But for whatever reason, that’s exactly what Oklahoma backup quarterback Austin Kendall decided to do.

Kendall was asked about how he thought Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield would handle the Ohio State defense. He said that Mayfield would “light up” Ohio State’s “basic” defense.

Here’s proof:

Mayfield has lit up his fair share of defenses since the start of 2015. The Oklahoma quarterback led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff and he’s still a Heisman Trophy candidate.

But he is facing an Ohio State defense that hasn’t allowed a touchdown yet. On top of that, the Buckeyes are currently tied for the FBS lead with seven interceptions.

Kendall, in all likelihood, won’t see the field in Saturday’s showdown in Norman. He won’t have to put his money where his mouth is.

But you can bet that’ll add some fuel to the fire for the Silver Bullets.
