Ryan Day is happy that it is all over, the Ohio State head coach embracing the end of the season even as his team lost in the College Football Playoff.

No. 3 Ohio State lost 52-24 to No. 1 Alabama on Monday night. Despite the obvious disappointment in the loss, Day is happy that this most unusual of seasons is now completed.

“We all just need a break. We’ve already started to put together the schedule for the spring,” Day said. “But we all need to get away for a while.”

Day added that “Guys miss their families.”

Of course, the unusual nature of the season, given COVID-19 and the quarantine restrictions placed on teams, made the 7-1 season far more of a grind for Ohio State than usual.

Ohio State played just five regular season games as three Big Ten games were cancelled due to the pandemic. The Buckeyes needed an exemption from the conference to play in the Big Ten Championship Game as they didn’t meet the minimum threshold for number of games played.
