Record-setter? 10 B1G teams are on pace to make NCAA Tournament in latest Bracketology update

A staggering 10 Big Ten teams are currently on track to make the NCAA Tournament.
That’s according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, who released his latest Bracketology projection on Friday ahead of this weekend’s games.
Here’s how it breaks down:
- Michigan 1-seed
- Iowa, 2-seed
- Illinois, 3-seed
- Wisconsin, 3-seed
- Ohio State, 5-seed
- Minnesota, 7-seed
- Rutgers, 8-seed
- Michigan State, 10-seed
- Purdue, 10-seed
- Indiana, 10-seed
If 10 bids seems like a lot, it’s because it is. The record is 11 bids, set by the Big East back in 2011. However, that conference had 16 teams as opposed to the Big Ten’s 14 programs.
Even with 10 bids, the Big Ten still has a couple teams on the wrong end of the bubble. Lunardi currently has Maryland and Northwestern as two of the final four teams to miss the Big Dance.
Michigan State, Purdue and Indiana are all firmly on the bubble as well. Still, it’s not impossible to think the Big Ten could match the Big East’s record of 11 bids if things break right down the stretch.
This weekend’s slate has several marquee games, including Illinois-Ohio State, Michigan-Minnesota and Iowa-Northwestern.
