The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) has released its annual Freshman All-America Team for the 2020 season. This year, three B1G newcomers were included on the list.
Northwestern offensive lineman Peter Skoronski and defensive Brandon Joseph were the only offensive and defensive players out of the B1G to earn a spot on this year’s team. Iowa punter Tory Taylor occupied that third spot as the only specialist from the conference to receive a mention.
Skoronski came to Northwestern has a highly-rated recruit and member of the 2020 class and lived up to the hype. Not only did the freshman lineman work his way into the rotation, he started in all 9 games the Wildcats played, helping the team to a 7-2 record and a B1G West title.
Joseph had an outstanding freshman season for the Wildcats, as well. The freshman defensive back led the B1G with 6 interceptions in 9 games. He was also credited with 52 tackles, 2 pass break-ups and a stop for a loss.
In his first year handling punts at Iowa, Taylor averaged 44.1 yards per boot during the 2020 campaign, the third-best average in the B1G. He also regularly pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line throughout the season.
