An SEC head coach has been fired, one week after the final game of the college football season was played.

On Monday, it was reported by KnoxNews.com that Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt has been fired. He lasted only three seasons with the Volunteers and was fired for cause, per the report.

Pruitt was terminated because of alleged NCAA violations that occurred while he was the head coach. There’s an investigation into those violations.

In addition to the news about Pruitt, it’s also being reported that athletic director Phillip Fulmer will retire. He will wait until a successor is chosen before stepping down. Fulmer’s retirement is reportedly not associated with the NCAA investigation or rules violations.

Fulmer was the longtime head coach at Tennessee, serving that post from 1992-2008. He’s been in the AD role in Knoxville since 2017.

In three seasons as the head coach at Tennessee, Pruitt was just 16-19 and the Vols appeared in just one bowl game — the Gator Bowl following the 2019 season.

Tennessee was just 10-16 in SEC games under Pruitt and finished the 2020 season with a paltry 3-7 mark. The Vols will now be looking for a new head coach before the start of the 2022 season.
