Bret Bielema is still trying to make some additions to Illinois’ 2021 recruiting class. This week, he was able to add another piece to the puzzle.

The Fighting Illini received a commitment from 3-star linebacker Dwayne Johnson, a native of Snellville, Georgia. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect announced his decision with a post on social media on Monday night.

Johnson’s commitment is a nice addition for Illinois, as the incoming class is relatively small. Just 14 players have signed their National Letter of Intent, but Bielema has recruited two more prospects since taking over the job in mid-December.

According to 247Sports, Johnson ranks as the No. 134 outside linebacker in the 2021 recruiting class and is listed as the No. 176 player out of Georgia.

Illinois beat 11 other programs for Johnson’s commitment, including two Power 5 teams. He also received interest from Army, Appalachian State, Arkansas, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Kansas State, Liberty, Memphis and Temple.

The Composite Rankings still have Illinois’ 2021 recruiting class ranked No. 74 nationally and last in the B1G. But as long as there’s still time to add players to the class, Bielema appears capable of making some late pitches.
